Unlike the NBA and NFL, which have established programs in the entertainment business, American soccer does not have established youth programs, etc (like its European counterpart) within the entertainment space, and thus could be a factor as to why FIFA street never came to be what it aimed for. To be completely frank, I believe FIFA Street did not gain the national recognition it may have deserved in the United States because of the fact that the United States is not an established powerhouse on the national football scene. One possible explanation for the lack in popularity of FIFA Street in the United States is truly a cultural statement. I have always pondered why, because FIFA Street offers some interesting features such as the ability to play on rooftops. However, even in the present day, I don’t see very many people playing FIFA Street as opposed to the normal FIFA game. At first, the game became popular in countries with nationally established soccer clubs such as England. When the FIFA game franchise picked up, especially in the United States, FIFA also decided to take its game out on the street. With relatively much success, the games continued to gain popular reviews and had multiple sequels associated with it. The games on the street aimed to make kids from urban areas be able to relate to the environment. With the introduction of NFL and NBA Street, these games not only revolutionized the culture of the video game industry, but it transformed the sports industry. When video games such as Madden and NBA established themselves as clear popular favorites in the sales charts for the United States, the EA Sports Brand decided to take it out on the street.

Over the years, plaster can dry out and lose its holding strength, or weaken from vibration, and the keys begin to break away. When the plaster is applied, it squeezes through the lath, creating “keys” that harden to form a strong integral bond with the wall. This base is usually strips of wood or metal wire mesh (both referred to as lath) that are nailed to the wall and ceiling framing. Plaster is heavy, and it needs a solid, well-anchored base to support its weight. Then prime and paint it to match the wall.įlaking and cracking plaster are relatively minor repair items, but when the plaster starts to sag, or “belly out,” from a wall or ceiling, it indicates deeper problems. When the patch is dry, use fine sandpaper to sand the surface smooth. In this case, use only joint compound for the final coat. Getting the surface coat smooth can be tricky, especially if the hole is large and you have limited plastering skills. When the patch is complete, and dry, just snip off the exposed wire. If necessary, wind wire ties wound around one or two dowels or sticks to hold it in place until the plaster mixture hardens.Īpply the plaster mixture in layers, allowing each to set before applying the next. Using tin snips, cut a piece of wire mesh that’s large enough to bunch-up and fill the opening when you push it into the hole. Begin by enlarging the hole just enough to expose firm lath around the perimeter. If there isn’t proper backing behind the hole, install backing first. Working from the edges inward, push the plaster mixture into and through the lath for a good bond. Or, you can use a screwdriver or a utility knife.įirst brush away loose plaster and dust. Wearing safety glasses, take a lever-type can opener and use the point to widen the crack to about 1/8 inch, as shown at right. It just takes a little spackling compound to repair fine cracks, nail holes, and gouges in a firmly anchored plaster wall. If, when you push on the wall, it flexes as though it has broken away from its support base, call a plaster specialist-the repair will involve removing the loose plaster and replacing it. Small cracks in plaster are relatively easy to repair, with one condition: The plaster must be firmly anchored to the lath behind it. Cracks leading from windows and doors or along seams in the ceiling can signal more significant damage, so you may want to call in a contractor to take a look at your home’s structural integrity. This product is also non-abrasive, meaning you don’t have to worry about ending up with a scratched roof. Its Eco-friendly nature also makes it safe to use near solar panels, as it won’t harm them. The product is biodegradable, meaning its residue won’t pollute the environment after cleaning your roof. If you have roof moss and need a budget-friendly, potent yet environmentally friendly product, then the 303 Rubber Roof Cleaner was manufactured with you in mind. Moss may take a longer time before it disappears.Ready to use with an extreme reach hose end. The not so favorite aspect is that its price is a bit on the higher side. So, you don’t have to worry about any remainders of the product as you can easily use them the next time roof moss creeps onto your roof. My favorite part? It has an unlimited shelf life and the capability of keeping moss off your roof for about a year. If you expect moss to disappear overnight after applying this product, then don’t buy it. Your moss will eventually die, leaving you with a clean roof. Like its other Wet and Forget family members, you only need to apply it on your roof and forget. So you can take your ladders back to the storage rooms. The product comes with an extreme reach hose end that can reach up to 30 ft. It’s also bleach-free and non-acidic, allowing you to apply it on the roof without fear of corroding any surfaces.Īnd if you are worried about getting onto the roof to apply this moss killer, don’t fret. You don’t need to mix it with water as it is readily mixed. The ready-to-use Wet & Forget Roof and Siding Cleaner is our second-best pick. Safe for both outdoor and indoor surfaces. You don’t need to scrub or rinse after application. However, unless you are on quite a tight budget, I believe that quality considerations should always exceed price considerations. The only downside of this product is that it’s expensive. You will also enjoy that this product has fantastic coverage of about 750-2250 sq. With this product, scrubbing and rinsing will be past tense, saving plenty of time and energy. Most of us dislike the scrubbing and rinsing that may follow moss killer application. It’s a one-step process moss killer where you notice that the moss is gone after a short while. Like its name, you only need to get your roof and forget. And your roof is safe from discoloring and corroding. You won’t have to worry about that burning feeling if it splashes on the skin while spraying. It’s a non-acidic, non-caustic, and non-bleach option, making it relatively safe. But, the Wet and Forget 10587 moss killer combines all these, earning its editor’s pick crown. It’s not easy to get a product that brings together all the desirable characteristics of a moss killer. Wet and Forget 10587 1 Gallon Moss, Mold, and Mildew Stain Remover This review takes you through the ten best roof moss killers and lets you in on everything you may need to know before purchasing this product. However, roof moss will still grow back without permanent solutions such as roof moss killers. If you are already removing moss with scarifying methods such as a rake, you are on the right path. And since this is a threat all of us rather not deal with, you need to remain proactive with roof moss treatment. If left unchecked, it causes irreparable damage to your roof and threatens the structural integrity of your home. But, you are not in a fantasy, and roof moss benefits stop at its picturesque aesthetics. At first glance, roof moss seems charming, making you think you’ve wandered off into the coveted fairy tale world. Most games are played with a single button press at the right time.Įasy enough, and it’s these kinds of super simplistic games that make for a great time killer. Luckily, this one came in English, so I had no problems finding my way around the menu.Īnd each mini-game comes with a convenient “how to play” screen. So if this kind of game play is your jam, here’s a perfect rabbit hole to throw yourself into. There was even a follow up in 2002, Pokémon Puzzle Collection vol. Perfect for long train rides around Tokyo or a relaxing weekend in the park. So this game gives you a ton of content to work with. There’s 80 puzzles in total, 20 of which are unlocked through game play. Game play is simple, yet addictive… as we’d expect for a miniature portable gaming console. Pokémon Puzzle Collection is a collection of sliding puzzle games. So let’s do this… should be a ton of fun! I have 31 games total for testing purposes, so that’s a pretty decent pool for a best list. (Also, the Pokémon Mini is the first console I have emulated that takes advantage of the rumble on my RG351V. Lucky for all of us, we live in the best time for portable gaming and we can emulate the Pokémon Mini on most of the Best Handhelds Under $100. I raised my hand and asked for the opportunity to test ALL Pokémon Mini game titles and create my rankings. I was pretty surprised to see we had not created a list for Pokémon Mini games, considering how much the team loves all things Pokémon.įear not, we didn’t miss the Pokémon Mini entirely, we covered it in our book A Handheld History. When I discovered how great the Pokémon Mini games were, I immediately looked into our own articles to find a best list for some game recommendations. You can’t blame me, it does look like a Tamagotchi! In the past, when I heard “Pokémon Mini”, I assumed that we were talking about a Tamagotchi clone that had the first generation Pokémon (green/red/blue/yellow) on it. And it is a console I had overlooked entirely. I recently discovered another retro game console that has a very similar feel. The simplistic monochrome graphic style, the old style LCD screen with the crispy pixels. The original black and white Game Boy is one of my favorite video game consoles because it is the epitome of “retro gaming”. I am here to present to you a list of incredible game titles that you may have never experienced before the best Pokemon Mini games. (Even if I had been watching these films at a younger age, as a high-schooler in the second half of the nineties in liberal New York City, this would still have been offensive.) Making it more off-putting still, this isn’t one joke stuffed two-thirds of the way into the routine, it’s the opening, crowd-killing bit. T is a faggot,” and ends with a riff about how he doesn’t really like women hanging out with homosexuals because what if they go home to their man “with AIDS on their lips.” Admittedly, 1983 was a different moment in the AIDS crisis, when transmission was still mysterious, but this is still unremittingly horrible stuff. Faggots aren’t allowed to look at my ass while I’m onstage.“ He then launches into a fifteen-minute bit of grotesque, aggressive homophobia that includes jokes like “I’m afraid of gay people,” “I have a nightmare I go out to Hollywood and find out Mr. The first joke that a 22-year-old Murphy tells when he gets onstage in Delirious is, “I got rules. The bad first, because it’s impossible to avoid. What did I learn from re-watching Eddie Murphy’s stand-up films? The really succinct assessment is this: Eddie Murphy’s jokes are bad, but Eddie Murphy’s performance is stellar. All to say, I liked Murphy quite a bit, and I definitely had a mental image of him in that red Delirious suit, but I’d only ever seen bits of these two films before watching them this week. I knew Murphy mostly from SNL reruns - his Buckwheat in particular stuck in my mind - and later from 48 Hrs., which I loved. There couldn’t be a better time to revisit his stand-up films.Īdmittedly, I was not an obsessive watcher of Delirious and Raw in my youth. Yes, he’ll be wearing a tux, not a red leather warm-up suit, but he’ll be onstage, with a mike, performing for a live audience that wants desperately to laugh. Come February, Murphy will, essentially, be doing stand-up for all the world to see. And this week, 24 years after Raw and with little to no stand-up appearances in between, Murphy went and got named host of the upcoming Oscars, making his comedy specials all the more relevant. He now has a reputation for being difficult and unlikable (one that interfered with his Oscar campaign for Dreamgirls), but in his early films and stand-up specials he’s boundlessly charismatic. He influenced a generation of comedians, but is too young to be paid the respect an older man might expect (Murphy is only 51, just four years older than his Tower Heist co-star Ben Stiller, though they’re from an entirely different comedic and movie-star generation). Once one of the biggest, funniest, edgiest movie stars around, he’s now best known as the guy who makes big, not that funny, family fare like Imagine That and Daddy Day Care, or for being the voice of a donkey. Nostalgia Demo: Anyone between their teens and 30s in the eighties who liked comedy, or going to the movies anyone born in the eighties who got wind of Murphy from older siblings, his comedy records, or Saturday Night Live reruns.įact Check: We had been kicking around the idea of doing a nostalgia fact check on Eddie Murphy’s stand-up films for a couple months. The first, 1983’s Eddie Murphy: Delirious, premiered on HBO the second, 1987’s Eddie Murphy Raw, which was released in theaters between Beverly Hills Cop 2 and Coming to America, grossed $50 million. Included among those successes were Murphy’s stand-up specials. Robinson’s Neighborhood, Murphy co-starred in 48 Hrs., a surprise hit that was followed by a string of movies that made Murphy one of the biggest, most bankable stars of the eighties. (Murphy and Joe Piscopo were the only members of the 1980 cast to make it to the 1981 season.) In the middle of his SNL tenure, one marked by a series of memorable characters including a full-grown Buckwheat and the host of Mr. With this week’s news that Eddie Murphy will be quasi-returning to live performing by hosting the Oscars, we decided it was time to revisit his classic stand-up films, Delirious and Raw.īackground: Eddie Murphy was all of 19 when he was cast on Saturday Night Live in 1980, the year Lorne Michaels left the show along with all the original cast members. Now, years later, we will take a look at these classics in a more objective, unforgiving adult light: Are they really the best ever? How do they hold up now? We’ve already reconsidered a number of once-beloved entertainments. The Nostalgia Fact-Check is a recurring Vulture feature in which we revisit a seminal movie, TV show, or album that reflexively evinces an “Oh my God, that was the best ever!” response by a certain demographic, owing to it having been imprinted on them early. One night when Sally and Gilly are grown up (Sally with daughters of her own), and have just dealt with a particularly unsettling event. From young Sally's spell which dictates her true love will "be able to flip pancakes in the air" (and the cactus-shaped pancakes that Gary makes), to the beckoning table settings that you notice if you pay attention, to chocolate-covered strawberries and the aforementioned chocolate cake to the beautiful produce at the outdoor market (including those ill-fated green apples that tragically scatter everywhere when Michael is killed). He purportedly had the bartender serve him cold water so he could stay sober while his clients became intoxicated the cocktail onion garnish served to distinguish his beverage from those of his clients. There are a lot of fun foodie moments scattered throughout this flick. A similar story involves an investment banker named Gibson, who would take his clients out for the proverbial three-martini business lunches. Although said to be a teetotaller, he often had to attend cocktail receptions, where he'd ask for a martini glass filled with cold water, garnished with a small onion so he could distinguish his drink from others. Other stories of the drink's origins feature apocryphal businessmen, including an American diplomat who served in Europe during Prohibition. Even the towns of Gibsonville, Seventy-Six, Pine Grove, Whiskey Diggings, and several others, did their trading here. During the winter of 1852 and '53, snow fell in Onion Valley to the depth of twenty-five feet. Īnother theory is that the Gibson after whom the drink was named was a popular California onion farmer, as seen in the publication Hutchings' illustrated California magazine: Volume 1 (p. Other reporting supports this theory Edward Townsend, former vice president of the Bohemian Club, is credited with the first mention of the Gibson in print, in a humorous essay he wrote for the New York World published in 1898. Charles Clegg, when asked about it by Herb Caen, also said it was from San Francisco, not New York. Gibson, who claimed to have created the drink at the Bohemian Club in the 1890s. Īnother version now considered more probable recounts a 1968 interview with a relative of a prominent San Francisco businessman named Walter D. As the story goes, Connolly simply substituted an onion for the olive and named the drink after the patron. Supposedly, he challenged Charley Connolly, the bartender of the Players Club in New York City, to improve upon a martini. According to one theory, it was invented by Charles Dana Gibson, who created the popular Gibson Girl illustrations. The exact origin of the Gibson is unclear, with numerous popular tales and theories about its genesis. There is no known recipe for the Gibson garnished with an onion before William Boothby's 1908 Gibson recipe. Other pre- Prohibition recipes all omit bitters and none of them garnish with an onion. But the earliest recipes for a Gibson – including the first known recipe published in 1908 by Sir David Austin – are differentiated more by how they treat the addition of bitters. In its modern incarnation, it is considered a cousin of the ubiquitous martini, distinguished mostly by garnishing with an onion instead of an olive. The Gibson is a mixed drink made with gin and dry vermouth, and often garnished with a pickled onion. Stir well in a shaker with ice, then strain into a chilled martini glass.1 cl (0.33 ounce) (1 part) dry vermouth.Gin and vermouth cocktail, often served with an onion Gibson Cocktail Perhaps the best thing about this movie is the fact that we don't know who the killer is for so long, which builds suspense - and mystery, and the film also carries off a nice twist little twist with the choice of actors surrounding the killer. He is joined by Tom Berenger, who also gives a decent performance in his role, while the rest of the cast is filled out by the likes of Clancy Brown, Kirstie Alley and Andrew Robinson. Deadly Pursuit is something of a film of two halves it starts off as a gritty cop thriller, and then mutates into a survivalist themed chase movie. Deadly Pursuit certainly has it's fair share of problems, but as an entertaining little action thriller it stands up well to criticism, as while some of the dialogue, situations and character drawings don't exactly ring true the film moves quickly and director Roger Spottiswoode does a good job of ensuring that the film is easy viewing and never becomes boring. This year, I was very fortunate to be contacted by a truly fabulous artist, Kristen Tirney (see her work here), who sent me these gorgeous hand painted brushstroke ornaments in three color variations – gold on navy, gold on white and navy on white.
